Tips for dealing with insulin reservoirs
|
| |
Can I use my reservoir several times?
Just like catheters, insulin reservoirs are made for one single use. The reasons for
this are hygienic as well as technical, that is, reservoirs which were used several
times can cause many pumps to trigger off alarm because of overpressure.
Which other aspects do I have to pay attention to when using
an infusion set?
First you should not draw up the insulin when it is cold. It should be able to warm
up in room temperature for 2 to 3 hours. Please do not put previously filled
reservoirs into the fridge. The insulin should always remain in the bottles since
otherwise there would be hygienic risks. Lastly, you should pay attention to filling
the reservoirs without any air bubbles. Every bubble – even though as small as a
bead of champagne - can cause both technical and physical problems.
