What is cattle insulin?

The cattle insulin was taken from the pancreas from cattle and used for the diabetes therapy. In the 80ties it was replaced by pigs insulin until this was even displaced by human insuline that was completely identic to the insulin of a human being.

Catlle insulin differs in 3 ingredients (amino acids), the pigs insulin in one from the human insulin. That´s why it can happen that our body identifies cattle insulin as an foreign substance and fight it. There will be no new adjustments with cattle insulin and by 2002 it will completely be removed from the market. But allthough there is an interest in the question whether catlle insulin can transfer BSE or not. After the statements of the companies Novo Nordisk and Aventis, there exists a controlling instance of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BFArM), that verifies the risk minimizing.(Content was changed correspondingly from the editorial office.

Pig insulinon the contrary stayed in use and just disappeared recently form the market.
