How often should you consult an eye specialist?
|
| |
As you most certainly know diabetes also impairs your eyes. This secondary disease
is called retinopathy. But how often should a diabetic consult an eye specialist?
Type 1 diabetics should see the eye doctor once a year at the latest from the fifth year
of disease on. In case of a bad course of treatment this step should be taken earlier.
Type 2 diabetics, however, should consult an eye specialist directly after the diagnosis
and have a secondary analysis made once a year.
In case a retinopathy has been diagnosed diabetics of both types should consult an eye
specialist more often. In general a diabetic should always state the chronic disease so
that the eye doctor can plan an analysis of the retina.
