Combined therapy for type 2 diabetes

A combined therapy means a therapy in which pills lowering the blood sugar level and insulin are used in combination. In detail we can distinguish between 2 kinds of therapy:
  • Basalsuported oral therapy Orale ,short BOT: The daily insulin coverage is given with a basal rate. The BOT therefore is suitable for people having a high blood sugar level even before a meal.
  • Supplementary insulin therapy, short SIT: In contrast to the BOT, the SIT is based on bolus insulin. The high blood sugar level after a meal are lowered by rapid-acting insulin. The pills aremainly used at nights.
In case a combined therapy is not sufficient, the ICT or the CT have to be applied.
