Conventional therapy (short : CT)
|
| |
Different from today in the past the CT has been used very often. This treatment still is employed today. The CT is very useful for people with a constantly regular life and who eat a constant amount of carbohdrates every day. A mixture of basal and regular or rapid-acting insulin is injected twice a day.
Advantage: -
Only two injections: one in the morning and one in the evening.
Disadvantage : -
One is very limited in living individual and sponatneous : To avoid hypolglycemia patiens treated with the CT have to eat a defined meal at a certain time. Additionally, they have to eat several small meals during the day.
- Like the meals the injections always have to be accurately in time.
Result: If a strict discipline is kept the CT can be very effective.Nowadays this treatment should only be applied if there is a psychological or logistic problem to use a theray witha pump or the ICT.
