From an interview with Dr. Marek Kruk, confidential medical officer of the German embassy in Warsaw and my own experience, result in a few point of views on the polish health care system that are by far complete and are subjected to subjectivity. Nevertheless they offer a small insight into the health structure east of us.
His described main problem is found in every former Eastern block state. The able doctors and nursing personnel move towards the West because of the lower earning abilities. Especially foreign languages tempt to a very quick departure. This trend however is decreasing because wages in the big cities are rising strongly. The disadvantage of this changed development is the lack of medical treatment in the country. Whole parts of the country are being represented by sparse occupied polyclinics. Also the equipment there is partly out of date.
In Poland as I myself have understood it, patients have to finance in advance their visit to the doctor. Drugs that are obtainable only by prescription, like insulin and as aid measuring stripes are in a huge part being paid for immediately by the sick fund. A polish diabetic explained to me that he has to pay in addition 10 cents (converted into Euro) per 50 measuring stripes
