A therapy on diabetes mellitus is divided into several parts. The clinical picture which leads to a resistance to insulin can be improved by every lost pound. When the loss of weight does no more increase the effect of the own insulin a treatment with medication and pills begins. But the medication is no substitute for physical activity and diet. It should be regarded as a further device to fight against insulin resistance.
Further information on the diagnosis: often there are no early symptoms, the metabolism is usually stable and the illness appears slowly.
In case the own production of insulin continuously decreases, external insulin via pen and ampoule has to be given. Still a diet and physical activity can support the medical treatment of the illness.
The insulin therapy of type 2 diabetes is always applied in combination with tablets.
In contrast to type 1 diabetes the concordance of monozygotic twins is above 50 percent.
