Teddy survey

As the succession of the BABYDIAB-Survey ,the TEDDY- survey tries to find out more about the inheritance of the diabetes type 1 by “an free analyse of risk genes of diabetes type 1 at (the) birth”. This international study is supported for 3 years by the “Institute of diabetes research at the clinic for children- and youthmedicine, part of the clinical centre, called “Rechts der Isar”, of the TU Munich.

„Particular for kids, that closer relatives (mother, father or brothers or sisters) have diabetes type 1, this examination is very useful. About five of hundredchildren, that have a hereditary handicap, emerge to diabetes type 1. They have a higher risk than other kids, whose get three of one thousand diabetes typ 1.”

For quite some time it is assumed that environmental factos have a great influence on the inheritance. We personally know about an analyses of WHO, that says that the number of diabetes type 1 has increased saltatorily in africa after using pesticides in the 70ties.

“the participation at the diabetes type 1 risk analyses ist pretty easy – every new born child kann take part.especially kids ,that have realtives with diabetes type 1, are advised to take part because they have a higher risk of getting the illness.

After the birth the doctor takes a blood sample out of the umbilical cord. The analysis can be caught up with the aid of some drops of blood until three months after the birth.
