There are more and more children who are affected by diabetes type 2 ?!?

Age: 10 years; height: 1,40 metres; weight: 105 kg; diabetes type 2 since 4/2000
Age: 12 years; height: 1,65 metres; weight: 100 kg; diabetes type 2 since 3/ 2002
What was an individual case in the past, becomes more and more usual in present times. An increasing number of children are affected with diabetes type 2, formerly known as diabetes of old age. Some new data: in Germany, every fifth child and every third teenager is overweight. According to the magazine "Medizinische Welt" (5/2004), even 4-8 % of all school children are adipös.

The situation in Japan and the USA is even more bad. The ones who are affected with diabetes type 2 are more than those who are affected with diabetes type 1. The most important risk factor is overweight. Other factors are due to hereditary transmission, lack of movement and false nutrition habits like fast food and soft drinks that contain sugar.

The fact that the situation in Germany is bad, but not hopeless, is shown by a study made by a clinic for children. According to this study, in proportion to 15000 people who have diabetes type 1 and are younger than 14 years old, there are only 72 people who have diabetes type 2. Additionally, the study says that in the years between 1975 and 1985 there were each only 10%; and in Eastern Germany only 4 % of the children between 10 and 13 years old that were being considered to be overweight. 10 years later, in 1995, the rate increased to 20 %. And then five years later the rate of the boys increased to 30 % and that of the girls to 25 %. Unfortunately, most of the school children are not aware of the calorie amount of their nutrition. One fast food meal would, for example, cover the calorie need for three days. If one pays attention to such risk factors and lives accordingly, it can be very simple to improve the disease or even to get over it.

Some examples of how many calories fast food has:
hamburger254 kcal
hamburger royal ts 561 kcal
fish mac 382 kcal
chips 321 kcal
salade 149 kcal
sausage with a roll 600 kcal
meatball 350 kcal
